The Tern Stow Decks are adjustable side cargo platforms that mount at the front or rear rack of compatible Tern cargo bikes. Five angle positions let each deck be set to the optimal angle for the cargo or passenger configuration in use — flatter for cargo, angled for footrest comfort. At 35 kg per side on paved surfaces, they handle substantial loads while keeping weight close to the axle for stable handling. Corrosion-resistant aluminium alloy construction keeps the set weight to just under 1 kg for the pair. The Stow Decks are specifically sized to work with Cargo Hold 72 Panniers — Tern's largest pannier format — giving the combination a compact, integrated profile when both are mounted.

The deck angle adjusts to five preset positions. For carrying cargo — boxes, bags, groceries — a flatter angle provides a more stable surface. For passenger footrests, a slight upward angle is more comfortable for a foot at rest. Five positions gives meaningful range rather than a binary flat/angled choice, so the deck can be dialled to what's actually being carried on a given day.
Front or rear rack mounting
The Stow Decks can be positioned at the front rack or the rear rack depending on the bike configuration and what's being carried. Front-mounted side decks keep weight forward and low for a different balance than rear mounting. Bikes that already have a rear cargo setup can add Stow Decks at the front without adding a second full rack system.
Cargo Hold 72 compatible — largest pannier format
The Stow Decks are specifically designed to work alongside the Cargo Hold 72 Panniers — Tern's 72-litre pannier format, larger than the Cargo Hold 37 and 52. The deck dimensions and pannier width are matched so both can be mounted simultaneously without interference. The combination gives a deck platform above and panniers hanging below — a high-density cargo configuration.
Low mounting — cargo weight stays close to the ground
Like all Tern side deck products, the Stow Decks mount at axle height rather than on an elevated rack platform. Cargo carried at this height keeps the bike's centre of gravity low — the bike handles more predictably through corners and at lower speeds under heavy loads. Tern's cargo bike frames are engineered for this loading position specifically.
50% load reduction off-road — plan accordingly
The 35 kg per side rating is for paved roads. On unpaved surfaces — gravel, compacted dirt, cobblestones — vibration and impact loads are substantially higher than on tarmac. Tern specifies approximately a 50% reduction in maximum load for unpaved use: roughly 17–18 kg per side. Overloading off-road risks stressing the mounting points and the deck structure at the attachment interface. If riding mixed terrain, load to the off-road limit from the start rather than the paved-road limit.
All-weather corrosion-resistant alloy — 0.987 kg set
