At 52 L per pannier and 104 L combined, the Cargo Hold 52s offer 41% more volume than the Cargo Hold 37 pair (74 L combined) and nearly four times the volume of a single Cargo Hold 28 (28 L). The 6.8 kg (15 lb) per-pannier load limit is the binding constraint for dense cargo — heavy items will hit the weight limit well before filling the volume. For lighter bulky cargo like clothing, soft goods, or large grocery runs, the full 104 L is usable.

Two child seats simultaneously — 2-passenger cargo bike design

The Cargo Hold 52 Gen 2 is the only Cargo Hold pannier explicitly rated for use alongside two child seats at once. The 600 mm length and profile of each pannier are shaped to fit the rear section of two-passenger cargo bikes — where both panniers must coexist with two seats, two sets of footrests, and the associated hardware. The Cargo Hold 37 accommodates child seats but is not specifically designed for the two-passenger configuration. If running a GSD or similar with two child passengers and needing panniers simultaneously, the 52 is the appropriate choice.

Three modes — Bucket, Rolltop, FlatFold

Same three-mode system as the Cargo Hold 37 Gen 3. Rolltop Mode seals the bag against rain with a rolled-and-buckled closure. Bucket Mode opens the top fully for drop-in loading of large or irregular items — a full grocery bag, a large jacket, a sleeping bag. FlatFold Mode collapses the empty pannier flat for storage when removed from the bike. The three modes address the main tension in pannier design: weather sealing vs. loading convenience vs. compact storage when not in use.

Pannier Adapter Gen 2 — required, not included

The Cargo Hold 52 Gen 2 does not hang on conventional K-style pannier hooks — it mounts via the Pannier Adapter Gen 2, which attaches to the bike's rear rack and provides the specific interface the panniers clip to. Fidlock magnetic buckle — one-handed rolltop closure

Fidlock's magnetic-assist buckle snaps shut when the two halves are brought within range, without needing precise manual alignment. On a fully loaded cargo bike with two panniers, a child seat, and whatever else is in hand, closing a rolltop one-handed is practically useful rather than just convenient. The buckle holds securely under vibration and releases with a deliberate directional pull.

The Cargo Hold 37 Gen 3 ($317/pair, 74 L combined) suits most cargo bikes needing panniers alongside occasional passenger use. The Cargo Hold 52 Gen 2 ($421/pair, 104 L combined) is specifically designed for two-passenger cargo bikes where maximum volume is needed alongside two child seats. Size up only if the two-passenger use case applies — the 52s are physically larger and the extra volume requires weight limits to be respected.
