The Short Haul D8 proves you don't need a motor to haul seriously. At 16.1 kg it's the lightest bike in the Tern lineup by a wide margin — and at $1,499, the most affordable. The EFBE Tri-Test approved 6061-AL frame carries up to 140 kg gross vehicle weight, the Atlas Q rear rack handles 50 kg with optional vertical parking, and hydraulic disc brakes stop it reliably whether you're loaded or light. Shimano Altus 1×8 shifting, Schwalbe Big Apple tires, and a wide fit range round out a bike that does real cargo work without the complexity or cost of an e-bike.

Frame and steel fork EFBE Tri-Test approved to 140 kg (308 lb) gross vehicle weight. The same rigorous independent safety testing as Tern's e-cargo bikes — just without the motor. Carries passengers, children, and full cargo loads with confidence.
50 kg Atlas Q rear rack + optional 20 kg front rack
6-point mounting Atlas Q Rack rated to 50 kg (110 lb) with UpperDeck Mount System and vertical parking. Add an optional front rack for up to 20 kg more carrying capacity. Compatible with the full Short Haul accessory range — child seats, panniers, cargo bags.
Hydraulic disc brakes
Front and rear hydraulic disc brakes deliver consistent, powerful stopping regardless of weather or load — a meaningful spec upgrade at this price point that puts it ahead of most cargo bikes in this range.
Shimano Altus 1×8 — 31"–95" gear range
Shimano Altus rear derailleur with 11–34T cassette and trigger shifter. Wide 31"–95" gear range handles loaded urban riding and gentle hills without needing a motor to get up them.
Ultra-low 49 cm standover
At 49 cm (19"), the step-over height is low enough to mount and dismount easily at traffic stops — even with a fully loaded rack or child seat behind you.
Wide rider fit — 147–190 cm
Adjustable stem and seatpost fit riders from 4'10" to 6'3" across a wide saddle-to-pedal range of 62–110 cm. One frame, shared easily across most adults.
Vertical parking
The Atlas Q Rack supports vertical parking — stand the bike upright on its rear wheel for tight storage in hallways, storage rooms, or small garages.
