Tern Trail Rack
A high-capacity front rack built exclusively for the Tern Orox — top platform for irregular cargo, side rails for panniers, low-mounted for balance, and corrosion-resistant for all-weather adventure riding. 25 kg on paved surfaces; reduce by half on trails.
The Tern Trail Rack is the highest-capacity rack in the Tern lineup and the only one purpose-built for the Orox adventure bike. It combines a top platform — for tents, sleeping bags, dry bags, and anything irregular — with side rails that accept standard panniers, giving the loaded Orox the front cargo versatility of a purpose-built touring bike. The Orox fork is specifically designed to remain stable and handle predictably with the rack fully loaded; that relationship between fork geometry and rack design is why the Trail Rack is Orox-only. Corrosion-resistant aluminium with protective finishing handles extended wet-weather use. Two bottle cage eyelets provide mounting points for water, a lock, or a RidePouch.
Highlights
Top platform + side rails — maximum cargo flexibility
The top platform secures irregular cargo — tents rolled in their stuff sacks, sleeping bags, firewood, dry bags — that can't be stuffed into a pannier. The side rails hold standard panniers simultaneously. Both systems run at once: panniers for structured gear, top platform for overflow or bulky items.
25 kg capacity — highest in the Tern lineup
The Trail Rack is rated for 25 kg on paved roads — more than the Hauler and Transporteur Rack (both 20 kg). That capacity drops to approximately 12.5 kg on unpaved terrain, where vibration and impact loads are significantly higher. Stay within the off-road limit to avoid stressing the rack and fork mounting points.
Low-mounted design — balanced handling under load
The rack positions cargo as low as the fork geometry allows, keeping the centre of gravity down. On a fully loaded adventure bike, high-mounted front weight introduces handling instability — the low mount reduces this significantly, keeping the Orox predictable across terrain types.
Orox fork — engineered for this rack
The Orox fork geometry is specifically designed to maintain stability when the Trail Rack is fully loaded. The fork rake, trail, and axle-to-crown dimensions are tuned for the weight distribution a loaded front rack introduces — the rack and fork are a matched system, not an afterthought. This is why the Trail Rack is not compatible with other Tern models.
Corrosion-resistant — all-weather and multi-day use
Aluminium construction with a protective finish handles extended exposure to rain, mud, salt spray, and condensation. Built for bikepacking and touring conditions where the bike is outside and loaded for days at a time.
Two bottle cage eyelets
Eyelets for up to two bottle cages, locks, or accessories such as a RidePouch. Extra hydration capacity when carrying more than what fits in frame mounts — useful on long remote routes where water sources are uncertain.
