A 9-speed chain built specifically for e-bike drivetrains — higher torsion resistance, stronger pin construction, and Double X-Durability to handle the added load of motor-assisted riding. Compatible with Bosch, Shimano, and other e-bike systems.
Standard bicycle chains are designed around human power output — e-bike motors apply significantly more torsional load, accelerating chain wear and increasing the risk of pin fatigue. The KMC e9 is engineered specifically for this environment: higher torsion resistance, a stronger pin rating, and KMC's Double X-Durability treatment for maximum service life. Inner and outer plate chamfering are tuned for stability and shifting accuracy at the chain line extremes common on e-bike drivetrains. Non-directional design installs in either orientation. Includes a CL566R-NP MissingLink connector.

KMC's strongest pin construction in this series. The riveting geometry controls how the pin is formed at the outer plate — tighter tolerances mean more consistent pin engagement and resistance to lateral flex failures.
Inner plate chamfering — stable engagement at extreme chain angles
The inner plate chamfers are shaped to guide chainring teeth smoothly into the chain. On e-bikes where the motor drives a larger chainring and extreme chain angles are common, this chamfering improves engagement consistency and reduces noise.
Asymmetric outer plate chamfers — cassette tooth clearance
The asymmetric outer plate design aids clearance of adjacent cassette teeth during shifts — particularly relevant at extreme chainline angles. Cleaner transitions between sprockets, less chain drop risk.
Elongated X-Bridge — improved shifting efficiency
The extended X-Bridge section between inner plates guides the chain more precisely over the sprocket tooth — faster, more accurate shifts across the cassette.

At 136 links, the e9 is longer than most standard chains — sized to accommodate the longer chainstays common on e-bikes, cargo bikes, and step-through frames. Excess links are removed during fitting.

Ships with a KMC CL566R-NP MissingLink — a reusable quick-link connector that allows the chain to be installed and removed without a chain tool. Non-directional design means the connector installs in either orientation.
